What the CD says:
'Baladi' means 'of the country' and is full of Egyptian soul. It is an urban music, but is rooted in the rhythms and musical forms of folk tradition. Like jazz, soul and the blues, it lends itself to improvisation, and each generation of players borrows and builds on what this exceptional album brings together world famous players, working together at the top of their form.
The music was recorded live, between 1989 and 10991, during concert performances of Raqs Sharqi by Suraya Hilal and Company.
